What's the best type of pellets to use to shoot squirrels with?
Hollow points, wadcutter (flathead), pointed points, rounded points, or another type. I just ran out of pellets and I'd like to know which to go with next. What are the Best kind of Squirrel hunting air rifle pellets to use?
The pellets that are the most accurate out of your gun.
No pellet, regardless of design... be it hollow point, pointed, or even nuclear tipped... will do any good if it does not hit the intended target.
The best pellet is the one that shoots the most accurately from your gun. Typically a domed shaped pellet has the best trajectory over the long haul. Do not get caught up in the hype that hollow points cause the most devastation on flesh because that can only happen if you can hit your mark.
Always... ALWAYS... use the pellet that gives you the best groups. If it happens to be a Predator or other hollow point type, all the better. If not, who cares. Hitting the mark is THE most important part of shooting. What are the Best kind of Squirrel hunting air rifle pellets to use?
supposedly hollowpoint pellets work the best, although its debatable wheather or not the pellet will have enough energy to expand inside a squirel. wad cutter arnt good as they dont penetrate well. wadcutter are designed to cut through papper cleanly. i would go with hollowpoint or pointed.
';bjrecd'; gave you the straight scoop.
The pellets that are most accurate in your rifle are the ones to use. Domed pellets are considered to be the best ';generally'; for hunting purposes.

IMO, stick with high quality lead hunting pellets and avoid the ';gimmick'; pellets. You can read what other airgunners have to say about that subject.

Assuming the pellets generate acceptable accuracy, wadcutters would likely be the worst since they'll have the lowest penetration. Rounded or pointed points will give you the best penetration, with hollow points being somewhere in the middle. Since you need adequate penetration, I'd suggest rounded or pointed pellets.
