What's the best type of pellets to use to shoot squirrels with?
Hollow points, wadcutter (flathead), pointed points, rounded points, or another type. I just ran out of pellets and I'd like to know which to go with next. What are the Best kind of Squirrel hunting air rifle pellets to use?
The pellets that are the most accurate out of your gun.
No pellet, regardless of design... be it hollow point, pointed, or even nuclear tipped... will do any good if it does not hit the intended target.
The best pellet is the one that shoots the most accurately from your gun. Typically a domed shaped pellet has the best trajectory over the long haul. Do not get caught up in the hype that hollow points cause the most devastation on flesh because that can only happen if you can hit your mark.
Always... ALWAYS... use the pellet that gives you the best groups. If it happens to be a Predator or other hollow point type, all the better. If not, who cares. Hitting the mark is THE most important part of shooting. What are the Best kind of Squirrel hunting air rifle pellets to use?
supposedly hollowpoint pellets work the best, although its debatable wheather or not the pellet will have enough energy to expand inside a squirel. wad cutter arnt good as they dont penetrate well. wadcutter are designed to cut through papper cleanly. i would go with hollowpoint or pointed.
';bjrecd'; gave you the straight scoop.
The pellets that are most accurate in your rifle are the ones to use. Domed pellets are considered to be the best ';generally'; for hunting purposes.
Good quality hunting pellets for a reasonable price
Crosman Premier Domed
RWS Superdome
Beeman Silver Ace
JSB Exact
If you want to try hollow points
Beeman Crow-Magnum
IMO, stick with high quality lead hunting pellets and avoid the ';gimmick'; pellets. You can read what other airgunners have to say about that subject.

Assuming the pellets generate acceptable accuracy, wadcutters would likely be the worst since they'll have the lowest penetration. Rounded or pointed points will give you the best penetration, with hollow points being somewhere in the middle. Since you need adequate penetration, I'd suggest rounded or pointed pellets.

What are your strategies for fall turkey hunting?
From articles I've read, spring calls don't work very well. I do know a spot where they move through, just not sure of their timing, it's never the same each day, but the location is pretty reliable. Unfortunately, that spot is on adjoining property where I hunt. I see them a lot, but my question is this; Is there a way to lure them across the fence for a good ol' 20 gauge salute? What are your strategies for fall turkey hunting?
My experience in the Fall makes me think that most calls, just don't seem to work on at the beginning of the season for Gobblers. The only way I have been consistantly successful is to find out where they roost for the night, and get there and set up closeby about 40 minutes before the sun comes up. I've also had some luck bringing a few Tom's thru a wire fence in past hunts using a lifelike Tom Decoy, along with 2 Jake Decoys close by....That seems to work in the FallWhat are your strategies for fall turkey hunting?
Find out where they are, then sit and wait
I park my butt near where they roost and hope to get a shot at one when they come down. And I haven't found any calls that work in the fall.
you have to scout and pattern their feeding habits. they are a creature of habit. if you come across a flock, make note of the time. if you are unsuccessful in tagging a bird that day, try and come back another day (as soon as you are able) and get set up in that spot at least 30 minutes ahead of when you first spotted the flock.
while squirrel hunting with my 2 nephews last weekend we kicked up a flock on the 2nd bench of the mountain and then found their line of scratchings on the 1st bench as we came down. as soon as archery ends i'll be taking my 12 gauge Mossberg chambered with #4 3'; Mags or a walk.

How cold of weather can a field hunting english setter be in?
I live in north dakota and it can get below -20 during the day in winter and i was wondering if it would still be able to go for walks and play outside. What about a German Shepard also, can it be in the same conditions? I think the coldest it got this past winter was -39.How cold of weather can a field hunting english setter be in?
Both dogs would do okay in this climate, but not as ';outside'; dogs. These temperatures would require the dog to be brought in.
A good rule of thumb is if you wouldn't sleep outside in just a sleeping bag, your dog probably shouldn't be left outside either. Bring him in the house and let him potty outside.
I have a 14 lb American Eskimo Dog, and she was playing outside in 12'' of snow in -20 weather this past winter. Of course, we both came inside when we got cold! How cold of weather can a field hunting english setter be in?
That's probably too cold for prolonged exposure, but for short walks and romps outside, the dog would be fine, a german shepherd would be okay too, but only for short periods of time.
Don't leave them outside for long periods of time. Only keep them outside for as long as you are outside. Just remember that if you are cold, then so is your pet! Keep them inside in the cold weather :)
Wow,that's pretty cold, but I'm not sure. You could probably take them for wals and excersize since dogs DO get Winter coats they should be okay, but be sure not to get them in any kind of water whatsoever.

What is the rule about having a hunting licence in texas can i use it in Iowa too?
If i have a texas hunting licences is the rule i can use it in iowa 2? Or do i have to go get a Iowa hunting licence please help. What is the rule about having a hunting licence in texas can i use it in Iowa too?
I highly doubt it amigo. Never heard of a multi state hunting license. What is the rule about having a hunting licence in texas can i use it in Iowa too?
You will have to buy a non-resident license, last I heard they were running somewhere between $450 and $550. Thats crazy, I wouldn't pay it. But I don't have to, I live in Iowa. So I get em waaaaaaaaaay cheaper. I would check out Kansas or Northern Missouri non-resident tags, they are probably cheaper, if you live in Texas those states would be closer to you, and they also have some good deer hunting.
Not only can't you use your Texas license in Iowa, but most states charge extra for hunting permits for out of state hunters. For example, while state residents might be able to buy a particular permit for $20, an out of state hunter will have to pay $300 plus for the same permit.
Each state issues its own licenses. If you are a Texas resident you would be purchasing an Iowa non-resident license.
No you need on in each state.
I'm real sure you need a separate license for each state.discount makeup

How would you go about training a hunting dog?
My father in laws has several Pits and Dogo Argentinos that he uses as boar hunting dogs.. they track the boar and then subdue/hold it until the hunter can get to it. How would you train a dog to learn these skills? Is there taining aids that you would use or would you need a professional trainer/hunting trainer of some sort to help you?How would you go about training a hunting dog?

Going hunting soon don't know what size my field tips are there 100 or 125 does anyone have a way to tell?
get a scale or take them to a bow store. and why are you caring about your field tips your supposted to use broadheads. shoot those before you go out in the woods to get used to them a little bitGoing hunting soon don't know what size my field tips are there 100 or 125 does anyone have a way to tell?
You are VERY smart for using the same weight target tips as your broadheads! As your shot placement will change drastically due to a minor difference in weight of your arrow head. When you practice, your poundage, shaft length, weight and spine, and arrowhead weight must all be identical to your hunting set-up. If not, your shot placement will change. I recommend you purchase a scale to weigh them. I also recommend practicing with your field tips throughout the year. Then, shortly before you intend to hunt, change your target to a paper target with a sand pile backstop behind it, and switch your target pratice to the broadheads you intend to use. Then you can complete any fine tuning you may need. Don't worry, you can resharpen the braodheads! Buy the sharpener when you purchase your scale.Going hunting soon don't know what size my field tips are there 100 or 125 does anyone have a way to tell?
