How would you go about training a hunting dog?

My father in laws has several Pits and Dogo Argentinos that he uses as boar hunting dogs.. they track the boar and then subdue/hold it until the hunter can get to it. How would you train a dog to learn these skills? Is there taining aids that you would use or would you need a professional trainer/hunting trainer of some sort to help you?How would you go about training a hunting dog?
