Do you have to have a hunting license to purchase a rifle in New York State?

I'm interested in purchasing a gun as a Christmas gift. Are there any regulations limiting this purchase?Do you have to have a hunting license to purchase a rifle in New York State?
No, you do not.Do you have to have a hunting license to purchase a rifle in New York State?
No, you do not have to have a hunting license to purchase a rifle.
I don't think you do, but every state is different.
No you don't need a hunting license. You need to be 18, have a valid picture ID and have no felony convictions. You just have to fill out paperwork, then they make a call and verify your info and if you come back clean they you pay for the gun and walk out. I own several guns so I have done this many times.
No...just stay away from getting caught doing criminal activities. Then, you'll be fine.
no ,you must have ID out the ying-yang now tho since 9-11

they will require some app. forms to be filed out FBI form and TBI forms and you can no longer buy a rifle for someone and that is NATIONWIDE it will be filed in your name! if you purchase the gun you CANNOT give it to someone without them registering NATIONWIDE FBI forms
Carrying concealed weapon: Permit required.

Child firearm access prevention law: No.

Record of sale: Yes.

Registration: Yes, handguns only

License/permit to buy: Handguns only

State wait period: Up to 6-month wait to acquire permit to purchase a handgun

Background check: National Instant Check System.
No. But your preception that the right to gun ownership might be somehow connected to hunting is disturbing. When people make us justify why we need a firearm, they are denying us our 2nd amendment rights.

In NY State you will complete some paperwork at the counter, they will make a telephone call, and send you out the door. There is a rifle registration in NYC only.

One thing to add, since this is a gift, make sure it is legal for you to give a firearm to this person. Laws prohibit giving a firearm to a felon, someone mentally unfit, etc... and civil and legal problems could arise in the future.

Be safe.
nope not in NY
You already have to have a gun to point at the cashier, since guns are virtually illegal in new york.
