I am planning on covering a lot of the trail and will substitute packing food for packing means. I know that in a survival situation any thing any where is fair game. I am planning my situation and will be prepared for it, is that a ';survival situation';? . Would it be illegal for me to hunt, fish, and forage along the trail in order to sustain myself? If so, where and where not? and what licenses would I need? Thank you. What are the hunting and fishing laws along the Pacific Crest Trail?
You will need hunting/fishing licenses for each state you pass through, if you plan on doing either while in that state. I would also find out when the seasons are for specific animals, and what the hunting/fishing regs are in the different places along the trail. Here in San Diego, it passed through several ';no hunting'; or ';Archery Only'; areas. Also, you need to be aware of what the regulations are for carrying a weapon in different places along the trail. In the National Forests, or on BLM land it is ok. If you cross into any state parks, private land, or National Parks, you could end up being arrested. Do your homework ahead of time.
