Are there alternatives to hunting and killing when it comes to population control? In what ways can hunting be cruel? What rights do you believe wild animals to have? What are the strongest arguments against encouraging hunting to control deer populations?
The only alternative is to allow the excess animals to slowly starve to death, unless the overpopulation leads to an epidemic disease first, which will kill nearly all of them. Animals do not have rights. Rights are of two types - inalienable and legislated. Animals have neither. Humans do have a responsibility not to abuse animals, forests, air, water, and other natural resources. Which is one strong argument for culling herds to levels where the animals can live normal, healthy lives. What are the strongest arguments against encouraging hunting to control deer populations?
Alot of people think that the Human Population is becoming too much to sustain. Should we have open season on them as well? I guess we kill whatever we like and some how human life is sacred. And animals don't kill each other because they want to control the population of another species. Only humans kill for greed and fun. How many endangered or extinct species caused by people just hunting? Grizzly bears, cougars, and gray fox have been wiped out of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Along with the Giant Sequoia tress of the western slope. All because humans thought there were too many at one time.
No. That is what they are there for. They are intended to be part of the food chain. Hunting is not cruel; it is natural. Look at the way animals treat each other. If you watch Disney movies, they try to depict humans as ruthless and cruel and the animals as peacefully coexisting saints. Nothing could be further from the truth. Watch National Geographic to see the unvarnished, harsh brutality of nature. Wild animals have no rights, but we have a responsibility to treat them humanely. Don't confuse rights with responsibilities
